O pastor Silas Malafaia abre o jogo em uma entrevista concedida ao Gazeta OnLine na qual respondeu questões sobre o aumento dos evangélicos no Brasil, a teologia da prosperidade, seu relacionamento com outros pastores e também sua saída da convenção geral das Assembleia de Deus no Brasil.Confira a entrevista na íntegra:
Por que deixou a Convenção Geral das Assembleias de Deus do Brasil?
Como todas as organizações muito grandes, essas convenções tornam-se muito políticas. Como eu queria abrir igrejasem todo o Brasil e havia muito cara querendo beber meu sangue (risos), para não brigar com ninguém preferi sair numa boa. Saí por cima. Faço pregações na televisão há 29 anos, mas sempre fui independente, um pregador interdenominacional. No evento Vida Vitoriosa do Maranhão, realizado recentemente, havia 120 mil pessoas só no domingo. Lá, reuní 700 pastores, inclusive da Assembleia de Deus.
O senhor vem de um lar protestante?
Meus pais são pioneiros na educação teológica pentecostal. Em 1962, fundaram o Instituto Bíblico Pentecostal. Minha família é muito tradicional na Assembleia de Deus, com mais de dez pastores. Meu pai, com 90 anos, é um deles.
A que o senhor credita o aumento de fiéis evangélicos no Brasil?
A queda do número de católicos é infinitamente maior do que as pesquisas mostram. Esse pessoal do IBGE pensa que a gente é otário? O que eu conheço de igrejas que há dez anos não eram nada e hoje são gigantes… No último Censo, em2000, a minha igreja tinha 7 mil membros; hoje, tem 23 mil. A pesquisa é feita por amostragem, e tem um jogo de interesses poderosíssimo por trás dos panos, um medo lascado do crescimento dos evangélicos no país.
Qual a causa desse medo?
Interesse político. Quem quer perder status quo? Há cerca de dois meses, sem que ninguém soubesse de nada, o presidente da Conferência Nacional dos Bispos do Brasil se pronunciou dizendo que o desenvolvimento do país faria com que o número de evangélicos diminuísse. Então tem interesse da Igreja Católica também. O fato é que o Evangelho dá à pessoa dignidade dela como ser humano. Não o Evangelho teológico, religioso, somente para a hora da liturgia, mas um Evangelho prático. Acredito que a Bíblia é o maior manual de comportamento do mundo. Se você praticar, acontece. É interessante também a gente falar sobre o preconceito que diz que pobre, burro, idiota, analfabeto é o que está na igreja evangélica, onde o malandro do pastor toma a grana dos caras o tempo inteiro… Esquecem que a igreja evangélica tem pobre, classe média, rico, intelectual, ignorante, todo tipo de gente. Ela atende ao homem em sua totalidade: biológica, sociológica e espiritual.
O senhor prega a Teologia da Prosperidade, que muitos criticam.
Preconceito tem em todo lugar e é fruto da ignorância. E até no meio evangélico, quem fala que é contra a Teologia da Prosperidade não sabe o que está falando. A Bíblia é um livro de prosperidade. Sou contra o besteirol em torno dessa questão. Do tipo: ?Todo mundo vai ficar rico?; ?Se você não ficar rico é porque não tem fé, vive no pecado?. É só ler os salmos 1º, 112, eles falam da prosperidade. Jesus disse: “Eu vim para que tenham vida, e vidaem abundância”. Que vida abundante é essa? Ele está falando da vida aqui na terra: psicológica, biológica e espiritual. Só um tolo não quer prosperidade em sua vida.
Essa é a grande motivação?
Não é uma questão só de prosperidade financeira, porque, se ela fosse a razão da vida, rico não dava tiro na cabeça, não tomava tarja preta para dormir. Dinheiro somente não resolve. Por que pessoas de alto nível social procuraram a igreja? É a busca de Deus, o vazio de Deus, que causa essa procura. Antigamente, até a igreja evangélica só tratava o ser humano como um ser espiritual. Mas, nos últimos 30 anos, começou a pensar que quando o cara sai do culto ele tem conta para pagar, é empregado, patrão, cidadão com direitos e deveres. Sou pregador para após o culto.
Nem todas as igrejas evangélicas têm pastores com formação teológica.
É que a mensagem do Evangelho transcende a pessoa do pastor. Aí tem o papel do Espírito Santo, da ação do divino. Há igrejas gigantes com pastores simples, que têm um dom vocacionado por Deus.
E as mídias eletrônicas?
Especialistas dizem que quem tiver o domínio da comunicação e do conhecimento vai vencer. Mas o maior instrumento de evangelização continua sendo a pessoa humana. A Assembleia de Deus, a maior entre as igrejas evangélicas do país, cresceu sem rádio e sem televisão. Tirando eu, que estou há 29 anos na TV, ela só começou a usar mais a mídia nos últimos dez anos.
Mas há denominações que, em pouco tempo, cresceram meteoricamente…
A Universal, a Internacional da Graça de Deus, nos últimos 30 anos, tiveram crescimento enorme. Mas junte todas elas, a do bispo Edir Macedo, do RR Soares, do Waldomiro (Santiago, da Igreja Mundial do Poder de Deus), que não dão a metade da Assembleia de Deus.
Como vocês, líderes dessas grandes igrejas, se relacionam?
Sou pioneiro na formação do conselho nacional de pastores. Me relaciono com grandes líderes. Com alguns já tentei, mas os caras não querem…
É o caso do bispo Edir Macedo?
Ele é um grande líder evangélico, fez um trabalho monumental, e ninguém mais do que eu o defendeu, quando foi para a cadeia. Depois, naquela guerra danada com a Globo, eu estava lá. Muitos diziam pra mim: “Malafaia, tu tá ferrado defendendo esses caras…” E a experiência me mostrou que eles só querem andar com outras igrejas quando têm interesses políticos ou quando o coro tá comendo forte no lombo deles. Em 1995, Macedo me chamou dizendo que em 1998 ele me elegeria com a força do voto da Universal, que queria fazer cinco deputados federais. Quando viu que eu não queria participar, me tirou da sua emissora. Não sou capacho de ninguém.
O senhor foi alvo de muitas críticas pelo fato de o pastor americano Morris Cerullo, em seu programa na TV, ter pedido ofertas de até R$ 10.011,00.
Morris Cerullo é um dos homens mais respeitados da igreja evangélica mundial. Tem 80 anos e há 60 anos viaja pelo mundo. Sustenta escolas em cinco continentes, para treinar pastores. Cerullo é dono de emissoras de TV na América, e o americano tem um jeito diferente do brasileiro, uma cultura de pedido de ofertas. Quando ele veio ao Brasil, falou uma palavra profética e pediu oferta de R$ 911. Depois, pediu a 12 pessoas uma oferta de R$ 10.011,00. Você já viu alguém dar R$ 911 e não acreditar naquilo que está fazendo? Olha, até no meio evangélico tem gente com dor de cotovelo e ciúme do sucesso dos outros. E eu virei a bola da vez. O número de pessoas que me ligam para dar oferta é muito superior ao das que me criticam. Só dão pedrada em árvore que produz fruto. Os amigos me fazem bem. Os críticos e inimigos me promovem.
O senhor diz que aplicará as ofertas em grandes projetos. Quais são?
Parte do dinheiro vai para dois eventos do Vida Vitoriosa, de São Luiz e de Fortaleza, cada um deles com custo de R$ 1 milhão. No final do ano,em Foz do Iguaçu, meus associados vão bancar para três mil pastores e jovens uma semana no hotel com pensão completa, para treinar os caras, melhorar o desempenho deles. Sabe quanto vou gastar nisso? R$ 4 milhões. Tenho também que mudar a tecnologia de transmissões para HD, o que vai exigir no mínimo R$ 2,5 milhões. Não peço dinheiro para mim. Sou o pastor que mais vende livros no Brasil - mais de um milhão por ano – e o que mais vende palestras em DVD. Não preciso roubar, tirar dinheiro pra botar no meu bolso. Só quem fala isso é quem não me conhece. Tem milhares de pessoas que me ajudam para bancar toda essa estrutura de programas com transmissão do Brasil, via satélite, para mais de 200 nações do mundo. São pessoas bobinhas? Não.
O senhor é uma das maiores resistências ao projeto contra a homofobia.
Não queremos impedir ninguém de ser o que quiser. Aprendemos com a Bíblia que nem Deus obriga ninguém a segui-lo. Mas o maior erro dos ativistas homossexuais não foi o de lutar por o que definem como seus direitos, mas infringir o direito dos outros. A Constituição Brasileira estabelece a livre manifestação do pensamento; que ninguém pode ser cerceado por convicção religiosa, filosófica e política; e que as garantias individuais são imutáveis. Como é que os homossexuais querem direitos, em detrimento dos meus? Lei de Homofobia uma vírgula! É lei do privilégio para os homossexuais. Tem que mudar tudo da lei, tirar tudo o que criminalize os que são contra a prática homossexual, se eles quiserem vê-la aprovada no Congresso. Uma coisa é criticar comportamento, a outra é discriminar pessoa. Critica-se pastor, padre, Deus, diabo, ministro, presidente da República, mas se criticar homossexualismo é homofobia… Quem fala mal de evangélico é evangelicofóbico por acaso? Eles querem privilégios, em detrimento do conjunto da sociedade. Mas olha: se eu ver [sic] alguém espancar, bater num homossexual, sou testemunha a favor do homossexual para botar o agressor miserável na cadeia. Não sou a favor disso.

What causes this fear?
Political interest. Who wants to lose status quo? About two months without anybody knowing anything, the president of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil has spoken saying that the country's development that would diminish the number of evangelicals. You preach prosperity theology, which many critics.
Prejudice is everywhere and is the result of ignorance. And even within the evangelical, who says he is against the theology of prosperity do not know what he's talking. This is the great motivator?

Not all evangelical churches have pastors with theological training.

You are one of the greatest resistance to the project against homophobia.
